Some Regulations on Hospital and Clinic Wastewater Treatment

According to regulations, dental clinics, general clinics, private hospitals, public hospitals, medical centers, cosmetic surgery centers, private specialty clinics must establish wastewater treatment systems for hospitals, dental clinics, general clinics, and beauty centers. These facilities operating in urban areas must build wastewater treatment systems that meet the standards outlined in QCVN 28: 2010/BTNMT – the National Technical Regulations on Healthcare Wastewater Treatment.

Specifically in Ho Chi Minh City, according to Official Letter No. 1882/UBND-VX dated April 26, 2012, from the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, healthcare facilities, private clinics, hospitals, and beauty centers in districts of Ho Chi Minh City are required to establish wastewater treatment systems in accordance with the regulations.

Detailed Technology for Hospital and Clinic Wastewater Treatment

Using Jokaso Technology for Hospital and Clinic Wastewater Treatment with Composite Materials to Save Investment and Operational Costs

Most wastewater from hospitals requires treatment and typically contains pollutants with similar characteristics: a portion comes from daily activities of patients and medical staff, and another portion comes from medical activities such as bodily fluids, blood, bacteria, chemicals used in testing, chemicals used in sterilizing medical equipment, organic matter, animal and plant waste, biological and chemical solvents, and pharmaceutical waste. The wastewater from hospitals and clinics is typically high in microorganisms, which could carry dangerous pathogens if not treated before being discharged into the environment. Therefore, proper wastewater treatment is crucial.

Using Jokaso Technology for Hospital and Clinic Wastewater Treatment with Composite Material Tanks to Save Investment and Operating Costs

Most hospital wastewater needs treatment and generally contains pollutants similar to the following: a portion comes from the daily activities of patients and medical staff, and another portion comes from medical operations such as bodily fluids, blood, bacteria, chemicals used for testing, cleaning chemicals for equipment, organic matter, biological and chemical solvents, oils, and pharmaceutical waste products. The wastewater from hospitals and clinics is often highly contaminated with microorganisms and may contain harmful pathogens if not treated before being discharged into the environment.

Alternatively, Building Reinforced Concrete Tanks for the Wastewater Treatment System

Hospital and Clinic Wastewater Treatment Process:

+ Anaerobic Section: Initially, all wastewater is directed to the anaerobic section to treat a portion of the organic pollutants in the wastewater (with a treatment capacity of 45-50% of the pollutant load). This section contains a medium for microorganisms to attach to, which helps to evenly distribute the microorganisms within the tank to break down waste. Alternatively, some contractors use a submerged mixer to stir the anaerobic biomass, ensuring it comes into contact with the wastewater to increase treatment efficiency. This section also includes a return pipe from the settling tank to recirculate water within the treatment system, enhancing microbial contact with the wastewater.

+ Aerobic Biological Section: After passing through the anaerobic section, the wastewater flows by gravity into the aerobic section. The aerobic section has a continuous aeration system at the bottom of the tank, with suspended media for aerobic microorganisms to attach to. These microorganisms will decompose the remaining pollutants (with a treatment capacity of 35-40%). In the aerobic section, the denitrification process takes place, and the nitrogen is then returned to the anaerobic section to eliminate nitrogen gas into the atmosphere.

+ Settling Tank: Finally, the wastewater flows into the settling tank to naturally settle the undissolved solids. The microorganisms settle at the bottom and are returned to the anaerobic section to reuse the microbial biomass. This also serves as food for heterotrophic microorganisms in both the anaerobic and aerobic sections of the wastewater treatment system. This process results in minimal sludge generation. Afterward, the wastewater passes through a disinfection section before being discharged into the receiving environment.

After treatment, the wastewater meets the Column A standards according to QCVN 28:2010/BTNMT – National Technical Regulation on Hospital Wastewater Treatment.

Advantages of the Hospital and Clinic Wastewater Treatment Technology Using On-Site Biological Treatment Technology:
- Wastewater treatment using advanced biological technology, without any chemicals, including chlorine;
- Simple system with high durability;
- Wastewater treatment meets Column A standards according to QCVN 28:2010/BTNMT;
- Saves construction area: there is no need to build a balancing tank or primary septic tank;
- Saves operating and energy costs: the system only requires 2 aeration machines;
- The hospital wastewater treatment technology in this case does not produce sludge, significantly reducing costs for sludge collection and transport compared to traditional technology;
- The treatment cost per 1m³ of wastewater is less than 2000 VND, including electricity and operational labor costs; 1 technician can operate 80-100 systems at the same time;
- The treatment system does not cause unpleasant odors to the surrounding environment;
- Construction and installation time is very short;
- We guarantee a 24-month warranty for the technology to the investor under any circumstances.
