The latest wastewater standards in 2024
Date public: 06-05-2024||View: 6877
The standard for wastewater treatment released into the environment is a limit set by the government to establish the maximum allowable concentration of pollutants. This standard not only ensures the safety of wastewater quality but also minimizes the negative impacts on the environment. Let's explore the latest discharge standards with Đại Nam Environment.**
1. Update on wastewater discharge standards issued by the government
1.1 QCVN 14: 2008/BTNMT - National technical regulation on domestic wastewater
Cmax is the maximum value for domestic wastewater when discharged into the water source as permitted by the state:
Cmax = C x K
Where,
-
C value as regulated in column A will be the basis for calculating the allowable domestic wastewater discharge into water sources that meet the National Technical Regulation on Surface Water Quality.
-
C value as regulated in column B will be the basis for calculation, but not for the purpose of supplying drinking water according to the National Technical Regulation on Surface Water Quality or coastal seawater.
**National technical regulation on domestic wastewater**
1.2 QCVN 28: 2010/BTNMT - National technical regulation on medical wastewater
For medical wastewater, the allowable Cmax is calculated for discharge into the receiving source according to the following formula:
Cmax = C x K
-
Column A specifies the C value as the basis for calculating the maximum allowable value in medical wastewater when discharged into water sources used for drinking water supply.
-
Column B specifies the C value as the basis for calculating the maximum allowable value in medical wastewater when discharged into water sources not used for drinking water supply.
**National technical regulation on medical wastewater**
1.3 QCVN 40: 2011/BTNMT - National technical regulation on industrial wastewater
The industrial wastewater standard QCVN 40: 2011/BTNMT, developed by the drafting committee of the national technical regulation on water quality, allows for the calculation of pollutant parameters in industrial wastewater when discharged into receiving sources as follows:
Cmax = C x Kq x Kf
Where,
-
Cmax is the maximum allowable value of pollutant parameters in industrial wastewater when discharged into receiving sources.
-
C is the value of pollutant parameters in industrial wastewater.
-
Kq is the coefficient for the receiving source of wastewater.
-
Kf is the coefficient for the flow of the wastewater source, specified for the total flow of wastewater from industrial facilities when discharged into the receiving source.
1.4 QCVN 12 – MT: 2015/BTNMT - National technical regulation on wastewater from the paper and pulp industry
The national technical regulation on wastewater from the paper and pulp industry sets the pollutant parameters in wastewater as calculated by the following formula:
Cmax = C x Kq x Kf
Where,
-
Cmax is the maximum allowable value of pollutant parameters in wastewater from the paper and pulp industry when discharged into receiving sources.
-
C is the value of pollutant parameters in wastewater from the paper and pulp industry.
-
Kq is the coefficient for the receiving source of wastewater.
-
Kf is the coefficient for the flow of the wastewater source.

1.5 QCVN 13 – MT: 2015/BTNMT - National technical regulation on textile dyeing industrial wastewater
The national technical regulation on textile dyeing industrial wastewater allows for the discharge of textile dyeing wastewater into receiving sources, calculated by the following formula:
Cmax = C x Kq x Kf
Where,
-
Cmax is the maximum allowable value of pollutant parameters in textile dyeing industrial wastewater when discharged into receiving sources.
-
C is the value of pollutant parameters in textile dyeing wastewater.
-
Kq is the coefficient for the receiving source of wastewater.
-
Kf is the coefficient for the flow of the wastewater source.
**National technical regulation on textile dyeing industrial wastewater**
1.6 QCVN 01 – MT: 2015/BTNMT - National technical regulation on natural rubber processing wastewater
The national technical regulation on natural rubber processing wastewater applies the following formula for pollutant parameters:
Cmax = C x Kq x Kf
Where,
-
Cmax is the maximum allowable value of pollutant parameters in natural rubber processing wastewater when discharged into receiving sources.
-
C is the value of pollutant parameters in natural rubber processing wastewater.
-
Kq is the coefficient for the receiving source of wastewater.
-
Kf is the coefficient for the flow of the wastewater source.
**National technical regulation on natural rubber processing wastewater**
1.7 QCVN 62 – MT: 2016/BTNMT - National technical regulation on livestock wastewater
The national technical regulation on livestock wastewater allows for discharge into water sources, calculated by the following formula:
Cmax = C × Kq × Kf
Where,
-
For livestock facilities with a total wastewater volume of less than 2m³/day, a collection system, sedimentation system, and wastewater storage system must be installed.
-
For livestock facilities with a total wastewater volume of more than 2m³/day, a collection system, waste treatment system, and biological pads must be installed.
**National technical regulation on livestock wastewater**
2. Regulations on penalties for violations
For acts of discharging wastewater into the environment that do not meet the standards or where the concentration of pollutants exceeds the regulations, affecting the lives and health of the surrounding community, the government will impose specific fines depending on the severity of the violation. The fines that businesses must pay range from 3,000,000 to 1,000,000,000 VND. In more severe cases where there is significant environmental damage that is difficult to remediate, the business may be suspended.
